God has a plan
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29 : 11 (NIVUK) |
Our passage this week is a well known one. However as with many well known, heavily quoted passages we can gloss over the significance of what is being said in this one sentence.
Many people may use this passage as an encouragement in hard times. Seeing it as saying something along the lines of "chin up, things are bound to get better". However I think we as followers of Jesus can take more than that from it.
Firstly and significantly, God says that he has a plan for us. This is important, we are not here on Earth to stumble about in the dark. We do not exist through chance, coincidence or calamity. We exist because God wanted and planned for it to be so.
We see that we have been brought into this world for a reason. To form part of God's grand master plan for the universe. We might only be small part of this plan, but small is ok. Small is not the same as insignificant.
Just like all of the tiny components in you phone or computer individually they might not look like much. However when they are put together according to their maker's plan they allow something special to happen. Suddenly this pile of bits is transformed into something better.
This week have confidence that God has a plan for you. A plan for good, a plan that will build you up. A plan that is bigger than you. Have a great week.
As we are getting into advent this week's song is getting a bit festive Joy to the World by Bethel Music. |
