Go! Just Go!
Jesus called the twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. Then he sent them out to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick, after saying to them, "Take nothing with you for the journey: no stick, no beggar's bag, no food, no money, not even an extra shirt. Wherever you are welcomed, stay in the same house until you leave that town; wherever people don't welcome you, leave that town and shake the dust off your feet as a warning to them." Luke 9 : 1 - 5 (GNB) |
How do you think that you would react in this situation? Out of the blue you are told to drop everything and leave. What's more you are told to do this without even taking the most basic necessities with you, and you have no idea where you are going.
I don't know about you, but for me this would be a scary proposition. I like things to be planned in advance, if I was going away I would like to know that a hotel room is booked and ready for my arrival before I set off.
However this isn't God's style. God loves it when we do things because we trust him, rather than because we have seen the itinerary and it seems like a logical thing to do.
In the example God is telling the disciples to 'just go' so that they are able to demonstrate their trust (or faith) in him. Things could have turned out very differently if they were given an opportunity to prepare. It would have been so easy for the disciples to deceive themselves into thinking that their success was of their own making. Instead their dependence on God kept them focused on the truth that he is the one who is in control.
God might not be wanting you to walk off into the night without any belongings or money. He might not be expecting you to go away without first booking a hotel room. However he will be wanting you to do something. Whatever this might be it will involve a lot of trust and a 'just go' attitude, are you ready for this? Have a great week.
