Gone hunting
"Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the door will be opened to those who knock." Matthew 7 : 7 - 8 (GNB) |
This week we are looking at finding what you are looking for. As you might imagine, and as we see in our passage this week, unless you are particularly fortunate and come across what you are looking for by accident the chances are that you will first need to look for your desired item in order to find it.
Recently while on holiday in the English Rivera we stumbled across a statue of a Rhino, like the one featured at the top of this thought. Seeing just a single sculpture it would be very easy to assume that it was just a sculpture on display in a seaside town. Later we found another and it became apparent that they were part of a herd of sculptures placed across the region.
So over the first few days we stumbled across these sculptures here and there. However we then came across a map showing where each of the rhinos were hiding. Knowing where they were made it much easier for us to find them.
Instead of simply stumbling across them on accident we were able to actively seek them out. The result being that we found many more than we would have done without the helping hand.
There are similarities between this and our passage. We see that God is willing to give us a helping hand as we go through life. We are told that if we need something, whether that be an opportunity, something practical or something as simple as a map. The first thing we need to do is seek it out, and seek God's help at the same time.
This week have a think about whether you have all the tools you need. Is there anything you could ask God for help with? Is there something that you are missing or are in need of? If so ask God to help you seek it out. Have a great week.
