There is a guy at the door
"Listen! I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they will eat with me." Revelation 3 : 20 (GNB) |
Here in our passage this week we see the gentleman nature of Jesus. Although he is the Son of God with ultimate power at his disposal, power that he could easily use to barge his way into the lives of anyone he chooses, as we see in the passage he doesn't.
Jesus simply stands at the door to our heart and knocks politely on the door. After knocking he waits there until we decide to open the door and let him in. The decision of when or even if we let him in is entirely ours.
With Jesus there is no Eastenders style hysterical screaming through the letterbox, no hard sell, no threats or underhand tactics. Jesus is simply waiting for those who genuinely want him in their lives.
The key things that we need to take away from this passage is the need for us to listen carefully and act upon what we hear. We need to carefully listen because as we have already seen Jesus does not make a big fuss or a loud commotion. If we are not listening carefully we might easily miss the things that Jesus is trying to tell us.
Acting on what we have heard is equally important. If you hear Jesus knocking but still choose not to take action. If you don't get up and let him into your life, you may as well have not heard anything at all. Taking positive action is key to us living the lives that God has planned.
This week make sure you are listening carefully for Jesus. Then when you hear him make sure you respond. Have a great week.
