Hearts desires vs worst nightmares
The nightmares of the wicked come true; what the good people desire, they get. When the storm is over there's nothing left of the wicked; good people, firm on their rock foundation, aren't even fazed. Psalm 10 : 24 - 25 (MSG) |
I don't know about you but out of the two choices offered in this passage I know which one I would rather have! The passage promises that God will give good people what they desire, what they really want and need. Whereas nasty wicked people will get the horrors of their worst nightmares.
Being a good person in God's sight isn't just about the things you do. Sure giving up your seat on the bus, or giving to charity, or volunteering, or being generous are all great characteristics of good people. However there is more to it than that. Good people in God's eyes also have a relationship with him. They are nice and kind people not just because it is a good thing to do, but because it is a God pleasing thing to do!
But be careful not to read what the passage doesn't say! This passage is not saying that for good people it will always be rosy and pleasant, and that bad things will never go their way. Quite the opposite!
There will always be storms (bad times) in all of our lives, regardless of whether you are good or bad. However the difference lies in the impact that these storms will have on you. Bad people will be severely hit by the storms. They will be damaged, broken or even destroyed. This is because they have nothing to cling onto when the going gets tough. Whereas good people have God, their strong rock foundation. This won't budge no matter how strong the storm! Good people can weather anything the storm throws at them because God has their back!
Where do you fit into today's story? Can you look forward to your heart's desires or your darkest nightmares? Wherever you are there is time to make sure you are good in God's sight, latched onto a strong foundation before the next storm hits.
Have a great week, latch onto the rock of God and you will be able to weather any storm and turn any nightmare into a blissful dream!
This week's song is Wait and see by Brandon Heath. It is a gentle upbeat song that reminds us that no matter what is happening in your life God has a plan for us. We just need to wait and see what these plans are. |
