"Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5 : 16 - 18 (GNB) |
This week we will be looking at having a conversation with the most important person in the universe, God. The key thing about conversation is that it is a two way thing. If both sides are not involved this is one person talking at another, rather than the two people having a conversation.
There are many ways in which people converse with God, some which you may be more familiar with than others depending on your background, but that is OK. The key thing is that you have a method that works for you and you feel comfortable with.
Prayer is by far the most used method. And you will be hard pushed to find a follower of God who does not pray, or at least see the value in prayer. Some will see this as being a way of telling God what you feel, what you want and what you need.
However, some can be less comfortable with communication coming the other way. Many of us have a lot more questions about this half of the conversation, questions like: How does God reply? How do I know that it is him? Or does he even reply at all?
Exploring the answers to these questions are essential to us having a healthy conversation with God, rather than speaking at him. Listening for God's answer is a key part of prayer. God replies in different ways to different people, you might not get the answer booming back at you in a thunderous voice. However you might get the answer through a friend, through a thought, image or dream or even through circumstance.
This week make a special effort to listen out for and be aware of the messages that God has for you. Have a great week.
