Welcome to the family!
We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. Those whom God has already chose he had also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the eldest brother in a large family. And so those whom God set apart, he called; and those he called, he put right with himself, and he shared his glory with them. Romans 8 : 28 - 30 (GNB) |
Our passage this week brings some very good news! Whatever happens today, no matter how good, bad, mundane or extraordinary. God will work for good through it all, the only thing you need to do is love and trust him.
Many people when they are looking for a sense of security or reassurance may turn to an insurer. Trusting that they will be able to provide a policy that will bring protection and peace of mind should anything unexpected happen.
However, many of these policies will have exclusions or limits to them. "We will only protect you up to this much money" or "we won't protect you if you do this, or if that happens". The peace of mind available from God does not have any such caveats or loopholes. There are no limitations with God.
As God's chosen people we are considered family. Not only family but the oldest son (even the ladies). During the time that this passage was written, being the first son had great significance. The first son is heir to his father's estate. On top of this two important responsibilities would rest on his shoulders: to look after the rest of his family when his father is no longer able, and to continue the family line.
So at this time the first born son was considered to be the most praised offspring and the favourite child. Also it was the most significant role in the family under the father, the head of the household. In this context, it really illustrates how much our God cares about us, to refer to us in this way.
So today how are you going to make the most of your position in the family? What are you going to do to make your father proud? Have a great week.
Our first featured song for the week is Limitless by the Australian worship band Planetshakers. This reminds us that God, the head of our family has truly unlimited power. Like many of their other songs it is full of energy, and catchy. |
