Who are you a child of?
Let no one deceive you, my children! Whoever does what is right is righteous, just as Christ is righteous. Whoever continues to sin belongs to the Devil, because the Devil has sinned from the very beginning. The Son of God appeared for this very reason, to destroy what the Devil had done. 1 John 3 : 7 - 8 (GNB) |
This week in our passage we are told that you could think of yourself as having one of two supernatural parents. These being either God or the Devil. We see that in the same way that we inherit traits from our natural parents, the same is true for our supernatural ones. People might say to you that "you have your dad's eyes" or "you have your mum's nose" or something similar. You inherited these features from your parents and they are part of your DNA.
So what characteristics can you inherit from your supernatural parents? There are two key characteristics that you could inherit. The first possible trait is being righteous (that is being right in God's eyes and pleasing to him). The other trait is being sinful (being evil, wicked or doing things which are not pleasing to God). Although unlike the shape of your nose these are not physical, they are still traits that other people will be able to see in you.
When people look at you which parent do you think they see? Which of these characteristics features most in your daily life? Which has the biggest impact on your personality? If you were sitting in a pub or a restaurant would your mates say "yes he is definitely a child of God". Would they, your co-workers or even your family be able to see enough evidence in your life to make this call? Or do you think they might need to resort to a 'Jeremy Kyle' style DNA test to find out who the father really is?
Unlike your physical parents there is always time to change your supernatural ones. All you need to do is start your relationship with God through his son Jesus. If you need some help your local church will be able to show you where to start. Have a great week!
